Big D Lights It Up

July 12th, 2006

I was walking around and for some reason this empty pack of smokes lying on the sidewalk caught my eye.

Berlin Zoo

June 23rd, 2006

The Berlin Zoo is located nearby a hostel I was staying in so I figured it would make a good day excursion. It turned out to be fantastic, so I have absolutely no regrets about this day except for failing to pull the trigger on asking this ballerina girl I met there if she wanted to meet up later.

São João

Although I spent the majority of my time in beautiful Brazil living in Salvador with a mother and her son and daughter, the father of my host family lived north of there in Jequié. For São João Festival we traveled by car to see him and partake in the local celebration, which we were told was notoriously rowdy. In response to that claim I now say, “Affirmative Ghost Rider.”

My partner in crime was this cool grad student dude from San Angelo, TX, who’s going to kick my ass when he sees I couldn’t remember his name while writing this blurb five years later. Don’t worry, though, buddy, I still have the posters we saved so we could throw another São João back home. At one point we went to an outdoor concert party where the shirt you bought and wore as a ticket scored you all-you-can-drink beer and all-you-can-eat food from each concession stand on the fairgrounds. I couldn’t imagine anything closer to Heaven if I tried.

Juci (1st girl on the right in the first picture), if you are reading this, I am so sorry I lost your number. Call me…Please?

Final High School Bash

Struggling to decide if the high school party you just went to was badass? Try this one on for size. Senior year was coming to a close, it was my friend in the pictures’ 18th birthday, and it was 420.

We were so hung over when we woke up that we only thought to break out the camera once we were already halfway done cleaning. Seriously.

Nonetheless, the pictures do a solid job of commemorating a good time. And on this (21-Aug.-2009), the day my parents are moving into their new house in North Carolina, it seemed a fitting ode to give a retrospective shout out to the one and only 5020 Swiss.

Twin Towers

June 14th, 1999

Twin Towers

My Dad took me to the northeast on a “baseball trip” in between my freshman and sophomore years of high school. Very cool move on his part as I got to take in a game each at now-defunct Yankee and Shea Stadiums as well as Fenway Park. Anyway, this picture is one I snapped (no I didn’t just run a Google image search) from aboard the Staten Island Ferry we hopped on during the day. Like I said, I’m well aware this isn’t exactly a one-of-a-kind image, but I appreciate having been where I was that day and seeing the twin towers in person considering I wouldn’t even be eighteen years old yet at the time of the 9/11 tragedy.
